Ethiopian Dance Off

I was in Ethiopia a little while back. Incidentally, you may know that’s where we’re adopting Haven from, but I wasn’t there because of any adoption stuff.

Anyway, while I was there some friends and I went to a “cultural restaurant” called Yod Abyssinia. This was one of those places where you go eat the local cuisine and they have traditional music and dance to entertain you while you eat.

At one point in the program, the dancers left the stage, came out into the audience and randomly selected people to dance with them.

I was one of the people chosen.

I didn’t realize until later, when I was called up on stage, that this had been an audition.

What you may view below is footage of what happened next.

Some say it looks like a giant gorilla and a spider monkey facing off against each other.

Obviously I’m the gorilla.

You’re welcome.

WHAT?!?

There’s been a lot of hubbub about the new Star Wars Blu-rays and how Lucas can’t stop messing with his masterpieces.

At times like this, I think it’s helpful to try to remember what we loved about those films in the first place.

The excitement.

The passion.

The fear.

The sorrow.

The wonder.

And, of course, the shock.

The Volkswagen Force

Two of my favorite things have come together.

Fabulous.

I coulda been this kid.

For sure.

And I would have totally freaked.

Help Haiti Live

I’ve been continuing to try to figure out just how I can help the people of Haiti. Of course I pray and give but I want to do more. I’m even considering going. Maybe you’d like to join me. At the very least I want to let you know about something else that people are doing and that you have the opportunity to be a part of.

Amos Story Music Video by Aaron Ivey

I’ve written about Aaron Ivey before and how I not only greatly love and respect him as a person but also as an artist and activist. I think his latest album is fantastic, and one of my favorite cuts is “Amos Story.” Here’s the music video they just released for this song.

Repent Spoken Word

I’m out of town all this week.  I’m speaking for the spiritual emphasis week at Calvary Day School in Savannah, GA.  Any and all prayers are much needed and appreciated.  I’ll let you know how it goes.

In the meantime, here’s a video we produced back before the holidays that just released recently.  It’s a spoken word on the concept of repentance.  It’s part of our effort to introduce some of the words associated with “Re,” this summer’s camp theme.

Actually, this is just a short edit of the piece.  The full cut will be released in association with studentlifeBIBLEstudy.

Enjoy!

Halloween Math Lesson

Here’s a video of a Halloween math lesson given by Matthew Weathers at Biola University. It’s pretty clever and funny. Happy Halloween!

There Is No Perfect Spaghetti Sauce; There Are Only Perfect Spaghetti Sauces

Today and tomorrow I’m spending my entire day in an e-commerce seminar.

There are places I end up that if you ask me how I got there I can’t come close to telling you.

My life is often on a trajectory I did not plan whatsoever and I just hold on.

But that’s not the point today.

Andy and I are constantly saying, “there is no perfect spaghetti sauce; there are only perfect spaghetti sauces.”

Malcolm Gladwell tells us why.

Secretly, however, I believe there is a perfect spaghetti sauce, and it’s over at Joe’s.

Filthy Roman Sponge

Vitamin Z posted this yesterday, and Michael posted it today.  Of course, you all might not read their blogs (you might want to start, though).  So, I’m posting it here.

Certainly adds a new dimension to our understanding of the crucifixion scene.  I’d never heard this before.
